WHY I TEACH VEDIC ART
HOW I GOT OUT OF MY CREATIVE BLOCKAGE:
Today, being creative through focusing on my inherent creative force is the foundation for me as an artist and teacher. But I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't received the key instructions regarding my creative process from the painting method Vedic Art. Let me tell you my journey:
As a child I loved to paint and draw, and like most children I experienced a great freedom in my creative expression. There was simply joy and playfulness present and nothing could stop me from exploring and discovering things about myself and life in general as I, in the creative moment, lost track of time and space. Unfortunately, this freedom gradually disappeared. I have a very vivid memory from daycare when we were painting wooden jewellery, I was about 10 years old, and I added all kinds of colours to my wooden leaf. I was told that blue wasn't a realistic colour on an autumn leaf. Bit by bit I learned that my creativity should look a certain way. I was supposed to draw and paint exactly what I saw around me and only that would be good enough. Sadly I was never really that good at transferring what I saw around me to the paper, and because of this my joy for creating and painting was lost.
But my passion for expressing myself creatively didn't die that easily. I still longed for being creative and later on I started to study art on different levels at different schools. I looked for methods where I could reunite with the joy and playfulness I previously had found in the creative process. In longing and despair I spent many years searching and I wondered if I would ever find my way. It wasn't until I had a burn out, went on sick leave and fell into depression that I finally stumbled upon the Vedic Art 17 principles for painting, creativity and life and I had the feeling of "coming home". As I received the first principle I knew that this was what I had been looking for, this would be my way back to the creative joy that I had lost as a child.
I cannot describe how much this meant to me. There actually is a "before and after" in my life, and my whole journey to become a professional painter relies on this method that led me back to my own power. Today I have the great honor to teach Vedic Art (which I have done for about 15 years now) and its creative journey to others who are just as "creatively blocked" as I was.
